The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 484

Gideon’s POV

The call came through just after midnight.

I was sitting in my office, going over pack reports that I’d been neglecting for the past few days, when my phone lit up with Tegan’s name.

I answered immediately. “Did you get the results?”

“No.” His voice sounded rough, hoarse, like he had been shouting. Or growling. Maybe both. “She found me.”

I sat up straighter. “What?”

“Avery tracked me down at the testing center. Paid the woman at the desk five thousand dollars to get the sample back. And she’s pissed. Really pissed.” He paused. “She’s on her way back to Evergreen right now to check on Bjorn. And probably to murder you, if I had to guess.”

I stood and grabbed my jacket off the back of the chair. “How long ago did she leave?”

“Maybe five minutes.”

That gave me time. The human lands were hours away by car. “Alright. Thanks for letting me know.”

I hung up and headed for the door.

The drive to Evergreen took just under an hour. I pushed the speed limit the entire way, my mind racing faster than the car. Avery knew what I’d done. She knew I’d taken a sample from Bjorn without her permission, and now she was going to make damn sure I couldn’t get another one.

But I had to try.

If Bjorn was my son, then I needed to know. Not just for my own sake, but for his. He was sick. He needed a father. And if that father was me, then I wasn’t going to let Avery keep him from me any longer.

By the time I pulled up to the Evergreen estate, it was nearly two in the morning. The house was dark except for a few lights on the first floor. I parked down the road and walked the rest of the way, keeping to the shadows.

Getting inside was easy enough. I’d been here enough times to know which doors were usually unlocked, and the side entrance near the kitchen was no exception. I slipped inside and made my way upstairs, moving quietly down the hall toward Bjorn’s room.

The door was cracked open. I pushed it wider and stepped inside.

Bjorn was asleep in bed. The moonlight coming through the window cast pale shadows across his face. He looked so small lying there, buried under the blankets.
