The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 502

Avery’s POV

The morning of the ceremony, I woke to the sound of a voice I had barely heard in weeks: Bjorn. I shot bolt upright in bed when I heard his voice echoing through the wall between our rooms.

I threw on my robe and went to his room. When I opened the door, I found him sitting on the edge of the bed, already dressed in his ceremonial attire. A healer was adjusting the collar of his shirt. His dark circles had faded somewhat and his skin was less pallid than yesterday.

“Mom!” he said when he saw me. “Do you like my outfit?”

I just stood there with my mouth open, then looked at the healer.

She smiled, straightening. “His condition has improved already since coming here,” she said, gathering her things.

My chest tightened. Tears welled up in my eyes, but for once, they weren’t the bad kind. I walked over to the bed and sat beside Bjorn and just gathered him in my arms, drawing him close and burying my face in his hair to inhale the sweet scent of his shampoo.

“Mom?” Bjorn wriggled in my arms. “Can you…”

“Sorry.” I released him, leaning back, and wiped at my eyes. “You look great, kiddo. Do you like the clothes?”

Bjorn nodded and looked down at the uniform. It was a dark blue tunic with silver embroidery along the edges, paired with black pants.

“I do like it,” he said. “Gideon—I mean… Dad said it’s traditional. It’s a little hot, but not too uncomfortable.”

I smiled, trying not to focus on the way my chest felt when he called Gideon “Dad”. “You sure you’re up for today?” I asked. “You’re not feeling too sick?”

Bjorn shrugged. “I feel a little better today.”

“Well, I guess you’ll be feeling a lot better tonight,” I murmured, looking at my lap.

Tonight was it; the night that Gideon would claim Bjorn as his heir, accepting him into the pack, and thus curing his illness. It still felt surreal and terrifying and so many other things in between. But it felt like the right thing to do. Since coming back here, everything was starting to feel right, even if it was a little scary.

Just then, a knock came at the door, and Gideon stepped in. He was already dressed in his formal clothes, a dark coat with silver buttons and the pack crest embroidered on the chest. His hair was neatly combed, and he looked every bit the Alpha he was.

I quickly looked back down at my lap as my face heated.

Bjorn laughed. “Mom, are you blushing?”

“No.” I quickly got up and walked over to the window, looking out. Behind me, I heard Gideon snort, but he didn’t say anything about it.
