The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 428

To his surprise, Melanie actually welcomed her with open arms.

And it wasn't just acceptance; they got along as if they were mother and daughter, dealing another heavy blow to Fletcher’s ego.

After about twenty minutes in the hospital room, Vivica finished her lunch. Thinking about the compatibility test he needed to do, Fletcher stood up as she was packing away the food containers.

“Chaim, Daddy has some things to take care of today. I’ll come back to play with you next time,” he said, saying goodbye to the boy with a heavy heart.

He couldn’t understand how he had been so bewitched by Riley Zuniga that he’d lost his mind, fixated on divorce and even willing to abandon the son he had raised for three years. Looking back now, he wanted to stab himself a couple of times for his foolishness.

“Mom, I have some things to discuss with him, so I’ll be leaving now. You two should get some rest this afternoon,” Vivica said gently to Sheridan and Melanie as she picked up her purse.

“Alright, you go on ahead. Don’t worry about us.”

Vivica said another goodbye to Chaim before turning to leave. The two bodyguards, who had been standing in the room like stoic sentinels, followed her out, flanking her just as before.

Now certain that any hope of reconciliation was lost, Fletcher felt a pang of grief, but he couldn't stop a sour, sarcastic remark from slipping out. “I have to say, you’re quite good at charming people.”

Vivica paused, confused. “What do you mean?”

“Look at how you’ve got Melanie wrapped around your finger. She’d do anything for you.”

Vivica chuckled, and seeing the undisguised jealousy on Fletcher’s face, she couldn't help but laugh again.

“What are you laughing at?” Fletcher’s expression darkened.

As expected, Fletcher shook his head. “Impossible. I think he’s lying. It has to be his!”

Seeing his conviction, a sliver of doubt crept into Vivica’s mind. “Why are you so sure?”

“A gut feeling. The way he talked about it that day, his tone and attitude… it just made me feel like Chaim isn’t his brother’s son at all. He’s his! He’s lying to you.”

Vivica stood frozen for a moment, her mind racing through various details. But in the end, she chose to trust Joseph.

“Think whatever you want; it doesn’t change anything for me. The fact is, Chaim is adored by the entire Baird family. He’s happy every single day, and that joy helps him endure the pain of his treatments and chemotherapy. For that, I’m incredibly grateful to them.”

Vivica spoke from the heart. Without the Baird family, she couldn't imagine what would have become of her and Chaim. They would have been destitute and helpless. Even with the money from the divorce, life would have been an excruciating struggle. It didn't matter if Joseph had lied to her or not; she wouldn't hold it against him or be angry.
