The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 450

There were more details, but Raymond knew Joseph wouldn’t be interested, so he left them out. At the dinner, Hayes’s two brothers had deliberately provoked Hillary, spewing hateful accusations, claiming she was unfilial to her deceased in-laws and had sown discord among the three brothers.

At the height of the argument, one of them had spat, “No wonder your daughter wants nothing to do with you! This is just payback!”

That one sentence convinced Raymond that Hayes's brothers had secretly investigated Vivica and orchestrated the car crash.

Caught in the crossfire of accusations, Hillary had been so overwhelmed with anger and grief that she fainted and had to be rushed to the hospital.

“Mr. Baird, you have to believe me,” Raymond said urgently. “Even though I don't have hard evidence right now, I'm certain Vivica's accident was their doing. None of us want Vivica to be in danger. But things have reached a point where, whether she acknowledges Hillary or not, Hayes's brothers will see her as a rival for the inheritance. That being the case, shouldn’t we join forces and fight them together?”

This was the true purpose of Raymond’s call. He wanted to convince Joseph first, hoping Joseph could then persuade Vivica to finally meet with Hillary and Hayes.

Raymond wasn’t acting purely out of selflessness. He recognized Joseph's capabilities and knew that with him involved, the Chase brothers stood no chance.

Joseph wasn’t a fool. He heard the calculation in Raymond’s tone. He had never been anyone’s pawn, and Raymond's blatant attempt to use him was deeply displeasing.

“Mr. Smith, if Vivica hadn't married me, if she were just an ordinary office worker, would you still be pushing for this reunion so aggressively?”

Raymond paused, stunned by the directness of the question. They were both intelligent men; he knew Joseph had seen right through him. In front of a man like Joseph, any attempt at manipulation was futile.

He decided to be honest. “If Vivica were an ordinary office worker, we would still want her to meet her parents. Not for any other reason than to let her know who they are, and to allow Hillary and Hayes to pass on without regret. As for getting the family assets back, I can’t say for sure. I would do everything in my power to help, but if we failed, we’d have to accept it as bad luck.”

“But Vivica is with you now. You have the power and resources to deal a serious blow to those two wolves. Naturally, our hopes are higher. I know the Baird family’s standing in Riverdale, and I know you don’t care about Hillary’s assets. But that inheritance rightfully belongs to Vivica. Even if she were to reclaim it only to donate it all to charity, it would be better than letting those two vultures get their hands on it.”
