Joseph didn’t want Vivica to know what he’d been through the night before. He was afraid she would blame herself, or worse, start thinking about leaving him to protect him from her troubles. For now, it was best they didn’t see each other.

After the call ended, Vivica put down her phone with a mix of feelings. She had a nagging sense that something was off with Joseph—his tone seemed a bit distant. But then she chided herself for being overly sensitive. It was probably just the aftereffects of being drunk, making his voice sound hoarse and listless.

On the other side, Joseph let out a quiet sigh of relief, having successfully deceived Vivica. Roderic held the bandage on his arm for a few more minutes until he was sure the bleeding had stopped.

“What? You were drugged and framed?” Raymond was so shocked he almost stomped on the accelerator. He knew the Chase brothers were lawless, but he was stunned that they would dare to target Joseph directly.
