So that was it. Vivica stared at Joseph, a fresh wave of guilt washing over her face.
"You've been a lawyer for years, handled so many high-profile cases, and no one has ever dared to retaliate against you. But now, because of me, you almost—mmph!"
Joseph knew exactly where she was going with this. Before she could finish her sentence, he shoved the last piece of pastry into her mouth.
Vivica choked slightly in surprise.
"If you ever say anything like that again, I'm giving you the silent treatment for a month!" Joseph threatened, his face completely deadpan but his tone authoritative.
Vivica swallowed the food and gave him an apologetic smile. "Okay, okay, I won't say it again. We leave for Sydville tomorrow. We'll get this sorted out and come right back."
"Good," Joseph nodded. He hesitated for a moment. "Chaim's been doing pretty well lately. Do you want to bring him with us?"
Originally, they hadn't planned on taking him. Back then, Chaim's treatments weren't showing great results, and they didn't want the travel to exhaust him.
Vivica frowned, conflicted. A few days ago, Joseph had mentioned that Raymond asked for Chaim's medical records so they could run their own bone marrow match tests in Sydville. It was an incredibly kind gesture, proving how much they cared about the boy.
For her biological parents, who had never even met her, the thought of having a grandson was probably an overwhelming joy.
"I mean, Sydville is in the south. The weather is warm. A vacation might be good for him," Vivica reasoned slowly. "And... if they really are as sick as Raymond says, then maybe..."
Maybe this would be the first and last time Chaim ever got to meet his biological grandparents.
Joseph looked at her with approval. "I was thinking the exact same thing. Let's bring him."
The holidays were all about family reuniting. If they were going to let go of the past and bridge the gap, they might as well give the hopeful grandparents everything they wished for, leaving no room for regrets.
