"Raymond, enough!" Joseph snapped, his voice dangerously cold. He slammed the down button for the elevator and tightened his grip on Vivica's wrist, as if shielding her from Raymond's desperate pressure.
Raymond saw the murderous look in Joseph's eyes and knew he had crossed a line.
But hearing Hillary's agonizing sobs echoing down the hall broke his heart. As the elevator doors slid open and Vivica stepped forward to leave, Raymond panicked. He reached out and grabbed her free arm.
At that exact moment, Hillary tore herself away from Cheryl's protests. Ripping the IV from her arm without a second thought for the blood dripping down her hand, she forced her fragile body out into the hallway.
"Vivica! Vivica... please don't go! Just let me look at you! Just one look..."
Hillary's desperate cries acted like a catalyst, making Vivica's instinct to bolt even stronger. She violently wrenched her arm out of Raymond's grasp and stepped into the elevator with Joseph.
The heavy metal doors slid shut, instantly muffling the chaos outside.
As the car descended, leaving the heartbreaking wails far behind, Vivica finally remembered how to breathe.
Joseph was holding their son with one arm and keeping a firm, protective grip on her hand with the other. Seeing how completely zoned out she was, he gave her hand a gentle squeeze to bring her back to reality.
Feeling the warmth of his touch, Vivica turned to him and forced a weak, fragile smile. "I'm okay..."
Chaim, sweet as ever, looked up with his big innocent eyes and said in his soft little voice, "Mommy, Grandma said we have to be super happy for the holidays."
Vivica's smile grew a little more genuine as she affectionately pinched her son's cheek. "You're right. Super happy. Look at my sweet boy, already knowing how to comfort his mom."
When the family of three stepped out of the hospital, getting back to the hotel suddenly became an issue.
Joseph was about to call someone to bring them a car, but Vivica already had her phone out. "I'll just grab us an Uber. It's faster."
