"It's normal to have doubts. Hillary is so sick she's completely unrecognizable; they honestly don't look like mother and daughter at all," Cheryl said, feeling another sharp pang of heartache at the thought.
They had finally found her daughter, but Hillary was knocking on death's door. Who knew if she'd even live to see the day Vivica fully accepted her.
The mother and son walked toward the lobby's seating area.
Seeing Cheryl approach, Vivica immediately stood up. Her eyes landed on the envelope in Cheryl's hand, and confirming it was the test, she proactively reached out for it. "Let me see the DNA results."
Cheryl offered a warm smile, taking two steps forward to hand over the document. "We wouldn't lie to you. You really are her biological daughter."
Raymond stood by his mother's side. As Vivica took the test results, his eyes shifted to her, watching her intently to see exactly how she would react.
But in reality, Vivica's reaction was completely flat as she read over the document. Because she had already accepted this truth long before she saw the paperwork.
However, accepting a fact and actually meeting the people involved were two entirely different things. She simply couldn't force herself to feel a deep, burning affection for complete strangers she had never met.
After looking over the results, Vivica casually turned and handed the report to Joseph.
Joseph was balancing Chaim in one arm, but he freed up a hand to take the document. When he saw the words confirming a biological parent-child relationship printed clear as day, a strange tug pulled at his own heart.
Cheryl and Raymond watched their reactions closely. Seeing that both of them had read the report but remained silent, merely exchanging a look, Raymond finally realized that they were still struggling to adapt to this new dynamic.
