"Okay, we'll be fine. See you tonight."
Vivica stood up, offering a polite nod to Raymond and the others. "See you tonight."
Stepping out of the hospital room, Vivica exhaled a long breath. Joseph held Chaim securely, the little boy having already fallen fast asleep, his body completely limp against him.
Needing both hands to support their son, Joseph couldn't reach out to hold Vivica's hand. Instead, he threw a concerned glance over his shoulder. "You holding up okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Vivica smiled softly, stepping up to loop her arm through his.
As they walked side by side down the corridor, Vivica recalled everything that had just happened, a wave of emotion washing over her.
"I can tell they're walking on eggshells around me. I really wanted to relax and act natural, but I just couldn't help feeling distant..."
"That's completely normal. You have zero memories of them. Plus, they bear some responsibility for losing you back then. The fact that you're even doing this much shows how forgiving and generous you are."
"Honestly, I wanted to ask why they didn't keep searching for me back then, why they didn't look until they found me. But then I thought about it... and there's really no point anymore."
Since she had chosen to forgive them and acknowledge them as her family, interrogating the past would only bring unnecessary pain.
Joseph loved her clear-headed logic. He flashed her a grin and suddenly leaned down, pressing a warm kiss to her cheek. "Figured out the secrets of life at such a young age. Smart girl. Just what I'd expect from a brilliant engineer."
Caught completely off guard, it took Vivica a second to realize what he had done. Blushing furiously, she raised her hand to playfully smack his arm.
Joseph let out a low, rumbling laugh, quickly warning her, "Chaim's sleeping. Don't wake him."
Vivica froze with her hand suspended in the air. A second later, she gently tapped his shoulder in exasperation.
