The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 540

"Chaim, can I get one last hug?" Cheryl asked, leaning down with her arms outstretched.

Vivica let go of her son's little hand, and the sweet boy stepped forward obediently.

Beaming with joy, Cheryl scooped him up. "You listen to the doctors and be a good boy with your treatments, okay? I'll come visit you in Riverdale as soon as I can. You have to get better."

"I will! I'm super brave!" Chaim nodded emphatically.

After loading the last of the bags into the car, Raymond checked his watch and frowned slightly.

"Mom, it's about time. I need to get them to the airport. The highway is going to be a nightmare today."

The holiday was drawing to a close, and the return traffic would be brutal.

Even the airport expressway wasn't a guaranteed smooth ride, so they needed a solid head start.

Reluctant to say goodbye, Cheryl carried Chaim all the way to the car alongside Vivica.

"Aunt Cheryl... please keep a close eye on my parents," Vivica said just before getting in, fully stepping into her role as a daughter. "If anything happens, call me immediately, and I'll fly straight back."

Cheryl placed Chaim in his car seat and turned to offer a reassuring smile. "Don't you worry. We've taken care of them for years; we certainly won't stop now. Besides, you've secured so much for our family—helping you shoulder this is the least we can do. You just focus on taking care of Chaim. He's so little; you need to make sure he beats this illness."

Vivica nodded firmly. "We will do everything we can."

After a final round of fond farewells, Vivica and Joseph climbed into the car.

The window rolled down, and Vivica waved at Cheryl until the vehicle pulled away and faded from sight.

When she had first arrived, she thought it would be a quick two-day trip.

Instead, they had stayed through the entire holiday.

Vivica felt like a prodigal daughter who had finally come home for the holidays to be with her family.

Her real family.

When they first met, she had felt awkward, stiff, and out of place.

Now that she was leaving, a genuine pang of reluctance tugged at her heart.

Blood was a funny thing.

Even without a lifetime of memories, love had managed to take root in just a few short days.

...

Raymond drove them to the airport, efficiently handling their luggage and the check-in process.

It wasn't until they reached the security checkpoint that Joseph finally told him to stop.

"Mr. Smith, this is far enough," Joseph said politely, extending his hand. "Thank you for all the trouble over the holidays. I'll make sure to bring Vivica back as often as my schedule allows."

Raymond smiled and shook his hand firmly. "I think we can call ourselves family now, don't you? There's no need for all this formality. You two are welcome back anytime."
