Vivica looked at the giant suitcase. Before she even had a chance to explain, Chaim raised his little hand and answered in an adorable voice. "I know! That is a holiday gift for you and Grandpa from my other grandparents."
Vivica raised her eyebrows in sheer astonishment before letting out a helpless laugh.
This little rascal had been quietly listening to the adults talk, and he had understood and remembered every single word.
Melanie was equally surprised. She cast an inquisitive look at Vivica.
"Yes," Vivica nodded, a trace of awkwardness flashing across her features. "My... biological parents. They couldn't travel to meet you due to their poor health, so they asked Cheryl to prepare some holiday gifts."
Traditionally, the husband's family was expected to bring gifts when visiting the wife's parents during the holidays. There was no strict rule saying the wife's side had to send extravagant gifts in return. However, Hillary felt indebted to the Bairds for taking such good care of her daughter. She wanted to express her deep gratitude and ensure Vivica had strong backing, preventing her in-laws from thinking her family lacked basic manners.
Hearing this, Melanie waved her hand dismissively. "That is completely unnecessary. Even if we were to meet, we should be the ones traveling to Sydville to visit them."
Melanie was telling the truth. Customarily, that was the polite way to handle it.
Vivica smiled and politely declined the notion. "There is no need. Your health cannot handle the strain of traveling, so please do not trouble yourself. They will not mind the formalities."
"When the opportunity arises, we really must make the trip. Since their health is failing, it is even more imperative that we go see them."
The Bairds were a prestigious, affluent family. Sheridan and Melanie were deeply respectable people who would never neglect basic courtesy.
Sheridan, completely fixated on his grandson, happily walked over to pick Chaim up. Overhearing the conversation between his wife and daughter-in-law, he turned and added, "Once the holidays are over and we have some free time, we will join you the next time you visit your parents."
Joseph had already briefed Sheridan and Melanie on Hillary and Hayes's situation.
The older couple felt a deep sense of sympathy for everything they had endured.
Now that their biological daughter had been found, it was a joyous occasion. Since both sets of parents were still alive, arranging a formal meeting was the absolute minimum requirement of good manners.
Faced with their genuine enthusiasm, Vivica could only nod in agreement. "Alright. We can figure out the details when Joseph has some free time, and we will have to see how Chaim is feeling."
"Yes, of course." Knowing she still had guests to attend to, Melanie offered a loving smile. "You two must be exhausted from the trip. The kitchen has food ready. Go fill your stomachs and get some rest."
"Thank you. Go ahead and take care of your guests."
Vivica pushed the heavy suitcase forward, nodding and exchanging polite holiday greetings with the lingering guests before leading her son into the main house.
After eating and starting to unpack, Vivica finally opened the massive trunk Cheryl had prepared. She gasped.
The contents were easily worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It was packed to the brim with ultra-premium holistic wellness supplements, rare organic herbs, and boxes of imported luxury health tonics.
There were also jars of wild, thirty-year-old ginseng and pristine, hand-harvested cordyceps from the highest-altitude regions.
"They really bought every expensive luxury health tonic they could think of..."
Vivica muttered to herself, staring at the extravagant ingredients spread across the floor.
