There was nothing she could do to help right now, and telling her would only cause unnecessary stress.
Once the evidence was solid and the Chase brothers were behind bars, she could step in for the final legal procedures.
On her first day back at the office after the holidays, Vivica arrived early.
Zavier Fulton was a generous boss, handing out welcome-back bonuses to everyone in the department. The atmosphere was festive and cheerful.
"Vivica, when I called Mr. Smith over the holidays, he mentioned that you and Mr. Baird took a trip to Sydville to meet your biological parents," Zavier said casually as he handed her the envelope.
She nodded. "Yes, we just got back from Sydville yesterday."
"You stayed that long?" Zavier looked slightly surprised before breaking into a smile. "I assume that means everything went perfectly."
"You could say that."
"So... are you going to resign?" In truth, that was the only reason Zavier had brought it up.
Frowning, she asked, "Resign? Why would I do that?"
"Your biological parents are founders. They have countless properties and an entire corporation under their name. Now that you've reconnected, aren't you going back to Sydville to inherit the business?"
Vivica was taken aback for a second before letting out a soft laugh. "I have no plans to do that right now. I'm used to my life here."
"Makes sense." Zavier nodded, chuckling. "You grew up here. Your whole circle is here. Plus, you're married to Mr. Baird now. There's no way he'd tolerate a long-distance relationship."
It wasn't a topic Vivica cared to entertain, so she merely offered a polite smile.
Sensing her reluctance, and spotting another colleague approaching, Zavier quickly moved on to hand out the next bonus.
The moment Vivica settled at her desk, Holly sidled up, her eyes wide with curiosity. "Vivica, are you really a billionaire heiress? No wonder you married into a family as prestigious as the Bairds. I always knew you were secretly a big deal!"
Vivica didn't bother defending herself.
Her colleagues had already made up their minds, and she had no desire to correct them.
Joseph had told her before that human nature was shallow—people respected the armor before they respected the person. If everyone believed she came from an elite, untouchable background, they wouldn't dare mess with her, saving her a world of trouble.
While she threw herself into her tasks, Joseph was practically living on airplanes.
Wanting to spare Vivica the worry, he neglected to mention that he had flown right back to Sydville that morning.
He took a nine o'clock flight out, landing in Sydville at eleven.
He was scheduled for a seven o'clock flight back, meaning if there were no delays, he'd touch down in Riverdale by nine that night.
The hurried trip was absolutely necessary. After Raymond had dropped the two men off at the police station, the authorities had managed to squeeze out far more information than they initially expected.
