Vivica was smart; one glance at the message and she saw right through his little trick.
He knew she would be upset, yet he did it anyway?
Did he figure it didn't matter if she got mad?
Not knowing how to reply, she simply ignored it. After reading the WhatsApp message, she closed the app, set her phone back on the table, and continued eating.
Joseph waited until he finished his meal without seeing a reply from his wife. *Great, she's actually mad,* he thought.
As they left the restaurant, he deliberately lagged behind and called Vivica.
But she didn't pick up.
He frowned, a helpless smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Since they met, got to know each other, and fell in love, this was the first time she had ever been truly angry and given him the silent treatment.
At the restaurant entrance, as Hillary was getting into the car to leave, she looked back for her son-in-law.
Raymond gave a quick reminder, and Joseph put his phone away, hurrying forward.
"Hillary," he addressed her politely, his tone quite formal.
Hillary looked at him, her eyes full of admiration, pleased that her daughter had such great taste in men.
"Joseph, since you're heading back to Riverdale City tonight, I won't be able to see you off. Thank you for all your hard work lately." Hillary was a gracious woman; even if she couldn't show her appreciation through actions, she made sure to express it in words.
Joseph replied calmly, "You don't need to worry about the case. I'll take full responsibility and see it through to the end."
"Alright, we're in good hands."
Hillary and Cheryl got into the car and left first.
Raymond had to head back to the office to handle some business.
Joseph continued on to the law firm's local branch.
His flight was at seven that evening, so leaving the office around five would give him plenty of time.
Once in the car, he called Vivica again.
At that moment, Vivica was getting ready to lie down for a nap.
Seeing that he had called twice in ten minutes, she stared at the screen, hesitating for a few seconds before finally answering.
