Noticing the sudden, heavy silence in the car, Raymond glanced in the rearview mirror again and suddenly realized his mistake!
His words had been misleading.
"Vivica, please don't misunderstand. Aunt Hillary absolutely has no intention of asking you to get tested to donate a kidney. None at all," Raymond hastily explained, his eyes darting to the rearview mirror repeatedly.
Joseph frowned, reminding him, "Focus on the road."
Keeping his eyes forward, Raymond elaborated, "Actually, a few years ago, my mom got tested. She was a match, and the success rate would have been about fifty percent. But Aunt Hillary flat-out refused. She was adamantly against it. She didn't want to jeopardize a perfectly healthy person's life just to save her own. So you can rest easy—she would never ask you to give up a kidney for her. She sought you out purely because she wants to make amends and have her family back together. There are absolutely no ulterior motives."
"I know. Just keep driving. I wasn't overthinking it," Vivica finally replied, seeing how anxious he was.
In truth, thinking it over carefully, she had a fairly good grasp of her biological parents' character by now.
If they hadn't been separated for over twenty years, perhaps her mother would have accepted a donation from her daughter.
After all, a healthy person who loses a kidney can still live a normal life with proper care; it rarely affects one's lifespan.
And Hillary was still relatively young. A daughter with a strong, loving bond with her mother wouldn't have the heart to stand by and watch her suffer.
But their relationship wasn't standard.
Her biological parents felt immense guilt and agony for failing in their duties all those years.
How could they possibly ask for one of her organs right after finally finding her?
If they were truly that manipulative, Vivica wouldn't have hesitated to cut ties with them entirely, pretending they had never met.

At the hospital, Hillary's face lit up the moment she saw her daughter.
