Nights without the kids around were their exclusive time for just the two of them.
Joseph held his wife close, the two of them leaning against the headboard, chatting idly.
Nestled in his arms, Vivica looked up at him with a teasing smile. "Do you have a preference? Boy or girl?"
Joseph chuckled, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Do you really think I care either way?"
"It's hard to say. The Baird family has a massive enterprise. Even if you say you'd love a girl, deep down, families like yours usually prefer boys to carry on the family name and inherit the empire."
Vivica knew that despite modern societal progress, many people still held onto those outdated traditional views, subconsciously preferring sons over daughters.
And that was especially true for wealthy, powerful dynasties like the Bairds.
They'd probably only want a girl after they had secured enough male heirs, just to round out the perfect family picture.
Hearing this, Joseph raised an eyebrow and let out a theatrical, exaggerated sigh.
"Wow. I had no idea you thought I belonged in the Dark Ages."
Vivica looked surprised, her own eyebrows shooting up. "You really don't care?"
Mr. Baird's tone was entirely nonchalant. "Before I met you, I had zero intentions of ever getting married, let alone having children. Do you really think I'm the type to obsess over 'continuing the bloodline'?"
If he cared about that sort of legacy, he would have married years ago and started having kids without stopping.
"Oh, right!" Vivica suddenly remembered. "How did I forget that?"
Joseph pinched her cheek. The skin was incredibly soft and bouncy, reminding him of a certain other part of her body.
The thought immediately sent his mind wandering into dangerous territory.
But she was in her first trimester; he had to keep himself in check.
Leaning against him, entirely oblivious to the dirty thoughts running through his head, Vivica asked curiously, "What about your parents? They're older. Surely that generation still holds onto those traditional expectations, right?"
