The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 491

The elevator doors chimed open in the distance. Seeing who stepped out, Galen instantly masked his vicious expression. He ended the call, shoved his phone into his pocket, and strode down the hall toward Franco's room.

He shoved the door open and immediately started gloating. "I bring good news. The love of your life is heading back to her room, and Harris isn't with her. You can relax now. Still want to kick me out?"

Franco was gripping a metal pen so hard it was beginning to bend. He completely ignored Galen, though his white-knuckled grip on the pen noticeably loosened.

By late afternoon, the sky over Cabinda had turned a bruised, somber gray. As night fell, a relentless rain began to pour.

The sound of rain lashed against the hospital window. A single, dim lamp cast a soft glow across the room where Petty lay curled on her side, her breathing shallow.

The door clicked open with a barely audible sound. Franco stepped inside, his gaze locking onto Petty's sleeping form. He quietly shut the door behind him and crossed the room with slow, deliberate steps.

He ignored the chair beside her bed. Instead, he crouched down gracefully beside her mattress. With infinite care, he pulled the blanket up, tucking it securely over her shoulders.

His hungry gaze traced every line of her face.

After watching her in heavy silence, he gently lifted her bandaged wrist. The gauze was tied differently than the day before—the nurses had changed her dressing.

He carefully set her hand back down on the mattress. Reaching out, he brushed a stray lock of hair from her neck, his fingertips grazing her skin with agonizing tenderness. His voice was a raw, low whisper.

"Petty."

"What do you want?"

Her eyes fluttered open. In the dim light, their gazes collided.

Franco's hand paused against her cheek. Her dark eyes were perfectly clear; there wasn't a trace of sleep in them.

She hadn't been asleep at all.

"Why are you doing this?" Petty asked, turning her face away from his touch. Her voice was flat, completely devoid of emotion.
