The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1364

Emily stood there, her brows drawn together as she watched the woman disappear. It really did look like this role was out of reach.

"Come on."

Kenneth noticed her zoning out. He pressed his lips together and spoke quietly, his tone all business.

"Go where?" Emily blinked, confused.

"To meet the owner of the comic company."

"Now? What's the point?" Emily gave a small frown and shrugged, letting out a sigh. "She already signed the letter of intent."

Sure, landing this part would have been huge for her career. But honestly, it wasn’t a must-have. If she was being real, a big part of why she joined this industry in the first place was Kenneth. She’d even picked the same company just to be around him more.

Fame, money... none of that really mattered to her. Plus, they couldn’t even find the original author.

"Don’t just stand there!"

Kenneth gently tapped her forehead, then slid his arm around her shoulders, guiding her inside. "It’s not over until it’s really over."

They’d been this close before, but only when they were kids. Now, though... it felt different. Awkward, almost.

Inside the coffee shop, Kenneth and Emily sat side by side across from the comic company’s owner.

"You’re too late." The owner took a sip of coffee, looking uncomfortable. His voice was low. "The letter of intent is already signed. There’s no way to change it now."

And to make things worse, the contract had already been sent to J. J had made it clear, more than once, that he didn’t want to be bothered about this. If they pushed him too far, he might just cancel his contract. J was the biggest name in comics right now, basically the star of their whole website. People flocked to their company just for a chance to work with him. If J left, the losses would be massive.

"Could you share J’s contact info?" Kenneth asked, swirling his coffee, voice steady but intense.

"Yeah. I want J’s contact info," Kenneth replied, not sugarcoating it.

Since the company owner could reach J, all they needed was to get into his contacts. Everyone had a weak spot. If J didn’t care about money, then they’d figure out another way.

"I want to see for myself if J’s blind, picking Sabina for the lead role."

"Thank you." Emily glanced at him, her eyes wide and soft, her voice barely above a whisper.

"It’s funny hearing that from you," Kenneth said, eyes fixed on her face.

Being this close, looking right at each other, Emily couldn’t help but think of that wild kiss they’d shared when she was drunk. She licked her lips without thinking.

Kenneth noticed. The way she did it just got to him. His gaze darkened, and he swallowed hard, thinking for the hundredth time that Emily looked especially beautiful today.
