“As long as you get it,” Lavinia sniffed, her tone sharp. “Lottie is the apple of our eye. You better treat her right.”

Back in the car, Charlotte was frowning, lost in thought. Anthony slid closer, reached over, and gave her cheek a gentle pinch.
“What’s got you all serious?”
“It’s nothing,” Charlotte said, shutting off her phone and tossing it aside. She leaned into his arms, her palm resting protectively on her stomach, and grinned. “I think I’ve found a way to cover our baby’s formula bills.”
Anthony blinked, not quite following. “Huh?”

Once they got home, Anthony headed straight for a shower. Charlotte sprawled out on the bed, propping up her iPad. Her slim fingers flew across the keyboard.
Jackson messaged: Charlotte, the client only said one thing. As long as they get the contact info, money’s not an issue.
Charlotte couldn’t help rolling her eyes. Big talk, she thought.
She replied: One million.
For something this simple, she was fine just charging her standard appearance fee.
Jackson: Got it. I’ll get back to them.
Less than five minutes later, Jackson sent another message.
Jackson: Charlotte, they agreed.
Charlotte: Remind me tomorrow.

Over on the other side of the city, Kenneth’s eye twitched when he heard the job only cost a million. He’d heard that N’s appearance fee alone was in the millions. He was ready to pay through the nose, so this almost felt like a bargain.
Before hanging up, Jackson added, “The money needs to be in the designated account before midnight tonight.”
“No problem,” Kenneth said quickly. “Can you get me an answer by tomorrow night?”
She pulled out her phone, scrolling through her contacts.
“Who are you calling?” Anthony asked, surprised by her sudden move.
“Grandma,” Charlotte answered, her voice clear and unbothered. “And Lavinia.”
Anthony stiffened, then quickly reached for her phone, his eyes dark and locked on hers.
“Are you tattling on me?”
“Of course!” Charlotte’s pregnancy had definitely made her sassier. “Anthony, you’re treating me so badly!”
They stared each other down for a few seconds before Anthony burst out laughing.
She really was adorable now that she was pregnant. She’d even learned how to tattle.
“Alright, you win. You can have some,” Anthony said, bending down to ruffle her hair, his voice full of affection. “You little drama queen.”
