The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1394

Since he’d already opened the door, she figured she might as well do him this favor.

“You’re asking, so how could I possibly say no?” Kenneth pulled back his usual rebellious attitude. He gave a faint, almost forced smile, his cold eyes settling on Adela. He spoke slowly, his voice cutting through the air. “Adela, be more careful when you walk next time. Don’t just go falling into random arms.”

Adela’s face went pale, then flushed, then pale again.

Did he just call her out? Did he really see what she was up to?

“I want the online rumors gone before today’s over.” Kenneth dusted the wrinkles from his shirt, looking irritated. “And I don’t want anything like this happening ever again.”

“If not…”

It didn’t matter to him which television exec was backing Adela.

“No problem,” Adela’s manager blurted, forcing a smile.

Truth was, they had always planned on handling this, whether Kenneth brought it up or not.

They’d both figured that catching a bit of Kenneth’s star power would boost Adela’s popularity.

But things just didn’t go their way. Most of the fans online were outraged, posting nonstop that Adela wasn’t even close to being good enough for Kenneth.

On top of that, some folks caught on right away, saying Adela set the whole thing up to get attention.

So, sure, she got a spike in traffic, but what came with it was a whole mess. Her reputation was pretty much in shambles now.

“Make sure it’s taken care of,” Kenneth said coldly, giving her manager a final look before checking the time on his watch. He stood and said, “I’m off for the day. Don’t call me again.”

Back in the lounge, Adela kicked a footstool hard, then dropped onto the couch. All that fake sweetness was gone from her face. What was left was pure anger—and jealousy.

Kenneth always kept every woman in the business at arm’s length. Except for Emily. She was the only one who truly mattered to him.

The rumors said the two had known each other for ages, and their relationship was good. Kenneth had even taken it upon himself to negotiate for her comic’s rights.

Thinking of that sent a bitter twist through Adela’s chest. What was Kenneth’s standing compared to Emily’s? So what if she was a popular actress now? Did that make her worthy of Kenneth or of the Gates family name?

She wanted to climb, but she was way out of her league.

Today didn’t get her any closer to Kenneth. No matter. She still had time. As long as she stayed at Apex Mediaworks, she’d make sure she took Emily’s place—and Kenneth’s heart—no matter how long it took.
