The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1407

“Charlotte…” Emily watched her, worry written all over her face. She hesitated for a moment, then finally asked, “So what do we do next?”

With Adela’s dad holding so much power at the Media Commission, their shot at getting the filming rights back pretty much vanished. It wasn’t about chasing fame—Emily just hated the idea of seeing all of Charlotte’s hard work go to waste. ‘Storm’ was her dream. Emily could never forgive herself if it disappeared because of her.

“We could ask Anthony for help,” Emily offered, straightening up. Her big, bright eyes were serious. “Let me talk to him.”

Her family hadn’t loved the idea of her going into showbiz. In the end, she’d promised herself she’d never lean on her family’s connections. But for Charlotte, she could swallow her pride this once.

“No need.” Charlotte noticed how anxious Emily looked, so she reached out and pinched her cheek, smiling playfully. “Just wait a bit. Sooner or later, someone’s going to come begging us to take the production rights back.”

Come back begging? Adela’s dad? Emily stared, surprised. That just didn’t seem possible. But Charlotte never made promises she couldn’t keep. Did she really have a plan?

At the film set, over in the makeup room—

“Adela, the permit for ‘Storm’ just got pulled.” Her agent spoke quietly after taking a call. “With Kemp involved, ‘Storm’ is basically done.”

“Well, serves them right.” Adela leaned back as the makeup artist added some finishing touches. Hearing the news, she let a smug smile cross her lips. “Spread the word. If they want the permit back, fire Emily.”

For Apex Mediaworks and J, switching out the lead was probably the only way to save ‘Storm’. She scoffed. Emily always thought she was so special—now she could get a taste of her own medicine. Losing the lead role, let’s see how long she stays on her high horse. Adela was almost looking forward to seeing Emily come crawling back, begging.

After dinner, Anthony came to pick up Charlotte himself.

Anthony couldn’t help a laugh.

Just then, a message popped up in their group chat.

Jackson: Charlotte, Galloway’s still out of the country. His schedule’s under wraps, so no one can reach him right now. He’s flying in tonight, though—he’ll be in Cabinda around lunchtime tomorrow.

The National Television Board was an even higher authority than the Media Commission. Every project approved by the Commission still had to go through the Board. Even someone like Adela’s father had to step aside for Galloway.

Charlotte: Leave word with his secretary. When he’s back, have him call me.

Galloway and Charlotte went way back. Years ago, when Eldoria’s film industry was being iced out by Western countries, frustrated at every turn, Galloway had been one of the few real allies she had.
