The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1527

Emily sat in the room, feeling lousy and all out of sorts. Nothing sounded good, not even food. She managed a few bites, then pushed her plate away.

“Emily, you can’t eat just that,” Helen said softly, her eyes full of worry. Emily looked so thin it almost hurt to see.

As a kid, Emily had always visited The Blair Estate. She was never the spoiled type, always kind to the staff. Helen had loved her for that.

“Helen, I really can’t eat any more…” Emily shook her head, nudging the tray farther from her.

Helen couldn’t help but sigh. Just then, there was a knock at the door, and Charlotte stepped in, dressed down in cozy clothes.

“Helen, why don’t you go handle your other chores?” Charlotte said with an easy smile. Helen looked instantly relieved, almost like she’d been waiting for Charlotte to come save her.

“Of course, Charlotte.”

Charlotte took Helen’s spot, settling next to Emily. “You need to eat something or you can’t take your medicine,” she said, her voice gentle. She scooped up some warm porridge and waited patiently. “Eat a little more, and I’ll answer any of your questions.”

“Charlotte, I…” Emily’s instinct was to refuse, but the look Charlotte gave her… she just couldn’t say no. She gave in, opened her mouth, and ate half a bowl in silence.

Once she was sure Emily had eaten enough, Charlotte leaned back, speaking in a calm tone. “You had a rough night. Someone tried to hurt you and…the kidnappers gave you a drug that messes with your memory. That’s why your head hurts and everything feels mixed up.”

Charlotte kept her voice steady, her expression almost soothing. “Once you take the medicine, you’ll start to feel better and things will come back.”

Kidnapped? Emily tried to reach for any memory, but her mind was just a blank slate.

She was about to ask about the man she’d seen earlier, the stranger in her memories, but suddenly he stepped into the doorway, carrying some medicine and a glass of water.

“Go ahead and take the medicine first,” Kenneth said quietly, handing her the pills. “After that, we can talk.”

She hesitated, then finally asked, “Are you Charlotte’s brother?”

He let out a small, strained smile. “Yeah, I’m her brother.”

“Charlotte said you’re my…” Emily hesitated again, biting her lip, too embarrassed to finish.

“My boyfriend,” Kenneth said, moving a little closer and bringing the glass to her lips. “And actually… I’m your fiancé.”

“Fiancé?” Emily swallowed the pills, then nearly choked on the water. Her long lashes trembled as she stared back at him, completely thrown.
