The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1535

“Mom…” Emily asked quietly, her brow furrowing a bit as she noticed the intense way her mother was watching her. “Are you okay?”

Norma squeezed Emily’s hand gently, smoothing her hair in a loving way and hiding whatever strange emotion had flickered across her face. Her voice was soft. “You’re not feeling well. Go upstairs and rest for a bit. I’ll be up to join you soon.”

“Okay.” Emily nodded, always so good and obedient, then turned to Patricia. “Grandma, I’m going up now.”

“Go ahead, sweetheart,” Patricia said, her eyes warm with affection and a gentle smile on her lips.

Sometimes life had these twists. As awful as the accident was, maybe it could bring mother and daughter closer together. That would be some small blessing, at least.

Under everyone’s lingering stares, Emily made her way upstairs, still looking a little lost and unsure.

Just as the mood in the room was about to settle, Dorothy’s voice rang out. “Just look at Emily… You can tell how badly she was hurt this time.” She didn’t even bother lowering her voice. “I heard the girl who kidnapped her worked in the same company. Used Emily’s life to blackmail Kenneth into getting married.”

Dorothy scoffed, her words sharp and loaded with sarcasm. “Some people have all the bad luck.”

Charlotte was sitting quietly, but at those words, she slowly lifted her gaze. Her eyes, so usually calm and clear, were now rimmed with clear irritation.

Dorothy turned her attention to Charlotte. “Charlotte, you’re supposed to be some medical genius, right? How come you still haven’t found an antidote? Or is it…” She paused, mouth curling into a mocking smile as she let the question hang in the air. “Afraid Emily might remember something and come after Kenneth?”

The chill in Charlotte’s gaze grew even colder. She opened her mouth to reply, but Anthony’s voice came first. It was low, cold, and unmistakably annoyed. “Dorothy, do you seriously have nothing better to do?”
