The phone barely rang before Samantha’s voice burst through, sharp and incredulous. “You want to transfer everything to Emily’s name?”
Knox looked over, letting out a quiet sigh. He’d expected this. Samantha was never going to sign off without a fight.
Before he could even gather his thoughts, Samantha’s tone rose, sharper than ever. “And you really think that little bit of money is worth handing over to Emily?”
Knox staggered and almost tripped. Hold on. Did he hear that right? Samantha just called Kenneth’s entire fortune “a little bit of money”?
Real estate, stocks, company shares, cash in the bank… Everything added up to at least a ten-figure sum. That was hardly “little” by anyone’s definition.
But Samantha just barreled on. “Alright, fine. I’ll have the Gates Family shares transferred over, too. Consider it early. After all… it’s not often a girl actually likes you. No way am I letting her get shortchanged.”
Kenneth went silent.
So did Knox.
The Gates Family shares. That would be worth even more, maybe several times over. Knox’s worldview was completely shattered.
Samantha’s voice came through the line one last time, cool and unwavering. “And one more thing. If you don’t bring Emily home with you, don’t come back at all.”
She’d clearly made up her mind. Emily was the only one for her.
“Alright,” Kenneth replied. There was a faint smile on his lips as he ended the call, then slipped into the car.
Not even five minutes passed before his phone buzzed. A text popped up, confirming the transfer had already gone through. When it involved Emily, Samantha moved at lightning speed.
“Have the lawyer add this to the agreement, too,” Kenneth instructed.
He raised an eyebrow. “What for?” He nodded at the maid and she hurried off to bring them.
Charlotte snuggled into Anthony’s embrace, settling against his chest, casually doodling across the page. “I need to prepare a gift to smooth things over with Kenneth. I kind of… lied to him.”
Anthony’s laugh was a low rumble against her ear as he rested his chin on her shoulder. “Now, I’m really curious about how he’ll react.”
Charlotte’s pen stilled. She tilted her head a little, eyeing Anthony’s smile. “Are you actually enjoying this?”
“Is it that easy to tell?” Anthony slipped his arms around her waist, pressing a kiss to her earlobe. His breath was warm on her skin, his voice nothing short of trouble.
Charlotte leaned in, biting his lower lip in silent rebuke, but her eyes gleamed with amusement.
