Anthony didn’t say a word. His eyes were cold enough to freeze the city and his face was so dark it looked like the world could end at any second.
The rooftop was dead silent. Charlotte sat there, chewing on her fruit, acting like he was completely invisible. Everyone else was nearly scared out of their minds. You would’ve thought they’d all lost their spines. No one dared to even breathe too loudly.
“Move.” Anthony’s voice finally broke the silence, clipped and icy.
“Yes.” Andrew’s response came out in a rush. He scrambled out of the way, and the rest followed, just as quick. No one was taking any chances with these two. When Anthony and Charlotte got mad, it was honestly terrifying. One look at them and you knew you never wanted to be on their bad side.
In less than a minute, the big open rooftop was empty except for Charlotte, Anthony, and the wind pushing through the night.
Even after Anthony showed up, Charlotte didn’t move. She didn’t look scared, not even a little. She just went on nibbling her fruit, cool as ever. She’d been talking about sending his son away and flirting with other guys, and she could look him straight in the eye like nothing ever happened.
Anthony’s lips twitched slightly. He walked over, bent down beside her, and spoke in a low, gentle tone. “Are you mad?”
Charlotte glanced up at him, silent. Her feelings were written all over her face. She didn’t have to say a word.
“The company’s been really busy lately. The new project is important.” Anthony sat down beside her and gently brushed a loose strand of hair from her face. “Did you miss me?”
Charlotte shoved his hand away. Her face was ice cold, not even trying to hide how annoyed she was. She’d warned him already, her moods during pregnancy were wild and unpredictable. He was supposed to know better than to push her buttons right now.
“Try me.” Charlotte’s voice was fierce. She knew exactly how to keep him pinned.
Anthony lay there, thinking he could probably break free, but… what was the point? If this helped her cool off, he’d go along with it.
“Oh my God.” The whole scene was clearly visible to the people hiding at the edge of the rooftop.
Shirley’s eyes were huge, worried and shocked. “They’re really fighting. Seriously. What do we even do if this leaks? It’s going to be all over the front page for years. Are we even supposed to be watching this?”
Hans, who’d been standing quietly nearby, finally started laughing. “I’ve known Anthony for years and I have never seen him take a beating before.” He shook his head in disbelief. “And he’s not even fighting back.”
