“Oh.” Anthony barely reacted. He sounded bored, then just ended the call, not caring at all.

All the noise pretty much killed Charlotte’s sleepiness. She sat up, snuggled against Anthony’s chest, and started fiddling with his belt absentmindedly. “It’s all just… so complicated,” she said in a lazy voice.

Anthony caught her hand before she could do any real damage and kissed her forehead. “What’s complicated?”

Charlotte let out a yawn and answered without much thought. “If Shirley actually marries Andrew, all of us… our relationships will be a total mess.”

He grinned at her, his voice low and rough—and definitely not worried. “We’ll see how long that lasts. It’s Andrew. Who knows if he can even keep Shirley around?”

She shifted, getting more comfortable, and started, “Other than being kind of ugly, a little dumb, and a few screws loose, Andrew is actually…” She paused, blinking those pretty eyes, thinking hard. “Actually, he doesn’t really have any good qualities at all.”

Anthony laughed softly. He clearly found her confusion adorable. Leaning in, he kissed her—eyes going dark and intense. “Don’t worry about them. Let’s see what Andrew does. If he ever hurts Shirley, I’ll handle it.”

Charlotte put both hands on Anthony’s shoulders and gave him an accusing pout, her eyes shining. “But Anthony, he’s your brother.”

He raised his brows, voice dropping to a quiet, gravelly tone. “So what? The Blair family isn’t raising any losers.”

No one would have to lift a finger, though. If Andrew stepped out of line, Patricia would handle him in a heartbeat.

Charlotte smiled and nodded, her lips quirking. “That’s a good rule. Someday, you’ll have to pass it down to your own son.”
