The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1721

“Don’t talk nonsense.”

Anthony pulled her close, holding her like she was his little princess. He looked at the elders, his tone polite. “Lottie doesn’t care for all these traditions. We’ll just take what she likes.”

“Alright,” Robert replied with a helpless smile, his eyes full of warmth for his granddaughter. “We won’t add anything else, but these gifts are a must.”

Charlotte considered it for a moment, but said nothing.

“Go home and get some rest,” Nora said, coming over to give Charlotte a soft hug. “And remember, before the wedding, you’re supposed to stay at home.”

Charlotte nodded and said her goodbyes, letting Anthony lead her away.

“We’ll head out too,” Andrew said politely, taking Shirley’s arm.

“Be careful on the road.”

Samantha followed Shirley with her eyes, a hint of longing and reluctance on her face.

“You’ve taken a liking to her, huh? Wish she’d marry Roger?” Kevin stepped up behind Samantha and slipped his arms around her, his voice gentle. “Looks like we waited too long.”

“Yeah, we did,” Samantha pouted, disappointment flickering in her eyes. “Our son just didn’t get lucky. Shirley’s really such a considerate girl.”

“If you really like her, why not make her your goddaughter?” Kevin gave her hand a squeeze, almost as an afterthought. “Her parents aren't around anymore, and you’ve always wanted a daughter. Isn’t this a good idea?”

Samantha’s eyes lit up. The thought seemed to snap her out of her mood.

Of course.

Why hadn’t she thought of that before?

If Shirley couldn’t marry into the family, she could still become her goddaughter.
