He opened the door and stepped inside. Two men in black suits, briefcases in hand, sat waiting on the sofa.
“Anthony, Charlotte, congratulations on your wedding.”
As soon as they saw the couple, the officials stood up and smiled. “We’re from the civil registry. We’re here to help you complete your marriage registration.”
Marriage registration? It clicked for Charlotte then. Today wasn’t just their wedding—it was her twentieth birthday, too. Twenty meant she could finally get married legally.
“So late at night?” Charlotte frowned at Anthony and lowered her voice. “We could’ve done this another day.” Why insist on doing it now?
“Today’s perfect,” Anthony answered. He slid an arm around her waist and led her to sit across from the officials, holding her hand tight. His voice was deep and slightly rough. “The timing, the place, everything just feels right.”
“Because it’s the same day as our wedding?” Charlotte asked, blinking curiously.
Anthony shook his head, looking at her with eyes that seemed as calm and bottomless as a winter lake, but somehow filled with a quiet, stirring tenderness. “Because it’s your birthday. No day could be better than this.”
So that was why he’d arranged for everything to happen today—even the registration. Honestly, no other day would’ve made more sense.
Hearing his words, Charlotte felt as if a soft feather had brushed over her heart, leaving behind a trail of warmth and tingles.
“Okay,” she finally said after a brief pause, nodding with a lazy smile. “Let’s do it.”
After all, the wedding was already done, and at this point… Anthony wasn’t going anywhere.
With the officials there and Anthony having prepared everything ahead of time, the entire marriage registration took less than ten minutes.
The sound of the official seal stamping down was satisfyingly loud, snapping Charlotte out of her daze. She glanced at the bright red marriage certificate in her hands, and only one thought crossed her mind: I’m really locked in for life now. Everything was official, above board, and totally legal.
