"Weren't we saving the head mentor position for the legendary—"
"Dean Vinson, I am speaking. Kindly refrain from interrupting me."
Wallace's brows snapped together. A flash of sharp irritation crossed his usually genial face, and his tone instantly hardened into absolute authority.
"Yes, Professor."
In terms of academic hierarchy, Wallace was technically Vinson's mentor. Back in the day, Wallace had handed him countless career-defining opportunities. Even his current position as the Dean of the Medical College was secured purely because Wallace had cast the tie-breaking vote in his favor.
Because of that, Vinson still harbored a deep-seated fear and respect for the older man.
"Charlotte, please ignore Dean Vinson's outburst," Wallace said, instantly pivoting back to her. The grandfatherly warmth returned to his face, practically radiating sincerity. "The students enrolled in our new traditional medicine program are the absolute brightest minds our university has to offer."
"If they could receive direct guidance from someone of your caliber, I have no doubt they would achieve unimaginable greatness."
Leaning back in her chair, the young woman slightly lifted her chin. A faint, unreadable smile played on her luminous features. "I don't think that's appropriate."
"Please, don't say that." Hearing her hesitation, Wallace actually laughed, completely dismissing her modesty. "With your level of mastery, teaching students is child's play. Hell, you're more than qualified to teach our senior professors!"
The sleeping sickness crisis had completely cemented his resolve. Traditional medicine was the future, and it needed to be preserved and evolved.
The Cabinda University was an institution with a century of prestige, its medical college globally renowned. But traditional medicine was the ancient backbone of Eldoria's history. How could such an elite university completely lack a department for it?
"When Dean Wallace came to me, he laid out an incredible vision for the future of traditional medicine at the university." Seeing Charlotte hesitate, Glenn stepped in to support his old friend. "He has fought against immense internal pushback for years to make this happen."
"He finally got the department approved. But if we don't have a truly exceptional mentor to lead the charge, the program is going to fail before it even gets off the ground."
"Charlotte, why don't you just think about it?"
"Yes, please just consider it." Wallace knew exactly the kind of person he was dealing with. She looked like a docile, beautiful young girl, but she possessed a fiercely stubborn and ruthless streak. She wasn't someone you could pressure or manipulate.
