"I lack a wife. Marry me."
Hearing Roger's words, Stella's eyes widened in shock, and she nearly stumbled backward.
"I'm a little hungry." Seeing her panic, Roger decided not to push her too hard just yet. He smirked and changed the subject. "Is there any food?"
"Yeah." Stella quickly lowered her head, texted the principal that they were ready for breakfast, and picked up an apple from the nightstand. She kept her head down, quietly peeling it.
When she didn't say a word, Roger frowned. "Are you planning to just ignore me?"
"No." Stella glanced up at him briefly before looking back down, her lips moving softly. "You can be discharged tomorrow to rest at home. Lottie said she's flying over as soon as the weather clears and flights resume."
Flights?
Hearing that, Roger raised an eyebrow. He knew exactly how his sister operated. If she wanted to come, she'd fly in through a hurricane.
"Here," Stella said, slicing the apple into small pieces and bringing the bowl to him.
Roger's right arm was injured, and his left hand had an IV drip. He just stared at her with deep, dark eyes, making no move to take the food.
Seeing how weak he looked, Stella felt a pang of guilt. She carefully picked up a piece with a fork and held it to his mouth. "I'll help you."
Roger opened his mouth, eating it with utter satisfaction.
Stella was incredibly tense the entire time, but thankfully, Roger didn't say anything else outrageous.
A little while later, the principal arrived with the food.
"Here are two meals, and the chicken soup you asked for, Ms. Stella, along with the ingredients."
"Thank you," Stella said, taking the bags. She opened the containers and turned to Roger.
Before she could say anything, he spoke first. "You eat."
"I'm not hungry." Stella held her silverware tightly, her face still pale, completely lacking color.
"I just had an apple. I can wait," Roger replied, his voice incredibly soft, almost coaxing. "However long you stall, is however long I starve."
