Hearing his assistant's words, Roger stopped in his tracks, his cold gaze shooting toward him, his expression turning terrifying. "Where?"
He had explicitly ordered that no one was allowed into his office while he was away.
That rule had never been broken.
"In..." Terrified by Roger's expression, Terence pointed at the office, stammering just as he was about to answer.
The office door suddenly opened.
A tall woman in a white lab coat with her hair pulled into a high ponytail stepped out in heels, beaming at him. "Roger, it's been a while."
Following the voice, Roger's thick eyebrows knitted together as he recognized the woman's face. He asked blankly, "Why are you here?"
Veronica Ham.
Roger's former classmate and a fellow member of the International Forensic Association.
She had finished her advanced training this year and applied to join the Cabinda forensics lab.
"Why wouldn't I be?" Disappointed by his incredibly flat reaction, the woman masked it with a smile. She walked up to him, staring intently, and asked softly, "I heard you went to be a country doctor for two months?"
"Yeah," Roger replied flatly, walking right past her into his office.
As soon as he reached the door, he was hit by the strong, pungent smell of perfume. It was nauseating.
"Sorry about that," the woman quickly explained, noticing his shift in mood. "Don't blame Terence. I showed up unannounced, and they didn't have time to set up my desk."
"My computer won't be here for another two days, and since yours wasn't being used, I figured I'd borrow it."
"You don't mind, do you, Roger?"
"I do mind." Roger said coldly, completely ignoring Veronica's feelings. "You know perfectly well that I hate people touching my things."
"I thought..." Veronica's smile stiffened, her expression awkward as she tried to play it off. "Since you could survive in a rural village, your habits might have relaxed a bit."
"What you think has nothing to do with me," Roger replied coldly. He turned to Terence, who was trembling after realizing his mistake, and ordered sharply, "Since Dr. Ham is in such a rush to use a computer, move it to her desk."
