The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 2011

Stella was so terrified after he left for just two minutes. "It's okay," Roger said, holding a cup in one hand while his other gently supported the back of her neck, tucking her securely against his chest. "Look around. There's no one strange here."

Clutching the hem of his shirt, Stella slowly opened her eyes and cast a cautious glance down the corridor. The hallway was bustling, but nearly everyone was a pregnant woman. Every mom-to-be wore a blissful, maternal smile. A few cast glances their way, but they only saw a loving couple, their eyes reflecting nothing but warmth and envy. Roger hadn't lied to her.

"Drink some water," he urged softly.

Stella sat on the chair, holding the cup in her palms. Her round eyes remained fixed on the man as he unwrapped a candy for her.

"Peach gummy," Roger said, feeding it to her. He brushed a stray lock of hair from her forehead, crouching down in front of her. "After the candy, it's time for your medicine."

Stella paused her chewing, the candy still in her mouth, and shot him a resentful glare.

"Take it now. It won't taste bitter," he coaxed, holding the prepared pills to her lips. "Be a good girl."

Frowning, Stella obediently took the medicine and washed it down with water.

"Lottie will be a little while longer," Roger said, pulling the girl to her feet and walking her over to the window. He wrapped his arms around her from behind. "The weather is beautiful. Do you want to go out and have some fun?"

He had intentionally chosen not to clear the floor of other patients today. He wanted her to adapt to normal environments. As long as she bravely took the first step, the rest of her treatment would be much easier.

"How about the amusement park?" Roger asked gently, caught up in the moment. "You seemed to have a great time when we went last time."
