Letty watched as Charlotte disappeared down the hall, a sly, sarcastic smile playing at her lips. “She really thinks she can get away with anything?” she said, her voice cool and cutting.
Everyone nodded in agreement. During physical training, the traditional medicine students had stolen the show for once, drawing all the attention.
Letty pressed her lips together, quiet for a long moment before muttering, “She’s so young. She hasn’t been slapped by reality yet.”
Just because she was top of the class, she thought she could act however she wanted.
Letty’s eyes narrowed with resolve. She’d make sure Charlotte learned what happened to anyone who messed with the Adams family.
As soon as Charlotte vanished from sight, Letty pulled out her phone and dialed her lawyer. She had hired the best in Eldoria. People said he’d never lost a case.
“Hale, about Janie’s case…”
“I’m sorry, Letty. We don’t have much of a shot. There’s really no point in appealing,” Hale said, cutting her off before she could finish.
Yesterday, he’d sounded so confident, saying they had a ninety percent chance. Now, overnight, everything had changed.
“Is this about money?” Letty asked, frowning, her words tumbling out. “If it’s a financial issue, we can talk.”
“Letty, are you still not getting it?” Hale’s voice was icy. “Money can’t fix everything. Janie pissed off someone she never should have. She’s not getting out early. Not a chance.”
“What?” Letty could hardly believe what she was hearing. Who was this person Janie supposedly couldn’t afford to offend? All Janie did was shove Stella, and Stella was totally fine. What made her so untouchable?
“There’s one more option,” Hale said after a pause. “If you want Janie out, get forgiveness from the victim.”
So she’d have to beg Stella.
Letty, who’d never lowered her head to anyone, especially not to Stella, hung up the phone, her hands shaking with anger.
This had to be Charlotte’s doing. If Stella cared so much about Charlotte, Letty just needed to find something to use against Charlotte. Then Stella would have no choice but to cooperate.
