The Officer's Runaway Wife and Secret Son novel Chapter 554

"Send me the coordinates, and notify the local precinct to dispatch a strike team to North Loop Road."

"Rhys! You can't go—" the Deputy Director yelled frantically from behind him.

"There's no time. I'm going in to pin them down."

Tossing those words over his shoulder, Rhys ripped his ID badge off his neck and stormed out of the command center.

North Loop Road, abandoned underground garage.

The thugs were lighting cigarettes, obnoxiously bragging about the chaos they had just unleashed.

"Damn, that pretty boy actually had some backbone."

"Who cares? We sent a clear message to Rhys. We trashed his wife's business today, and we can do it again tomorrow. Let's see if he has the guts to come looking for us when he finds out."

As they laughed, a blinding set of high beams suddenly illuminated the top of the garage ramp.

A massive black SUV slammed on its brakes, skidding to a halt horizontally to completely block their exit.

The door swung open.

Rhys stepped out, still in his police uniform, his expression an emotionless void.

The bald thug narrowed his eyes, recognizing him instantly, and blew out a mocking puff of smoke. "Well, look who it is. If it isn't our dear Captain Huntington. You got here pretty fast. I heard they even took your gun away, and you still think you can play hero for your wife?"

A chorus of derisive laughter echoed through the concrete space.

They all knew Rhys's health was rapidly deteriorating; none of them considered him an actual threat.

It was six against one.

And their opponent was a sick, unarmed man.

What did they have to fear?

Rhys looked at them with a deadly calm. He stripped off his uniform jacket, tossing it onto a rusted paint bucket, and unfastened his cuffs, rolling his sleeves up to his forearms. He then yanked off his tie, wrapping the thick fabric methodically around his right fist.

"I did turn in my gun. But for the likes of you, I don't need one."

Before the words even settled, he exploded forward.

The bald thug didn't even process the movement before a blinding agony ripped through his wrist. With a sickening crack, the steel pipe clattered to the floor, his right arm instantly dislocated.

Before the man could even scream, Rhys launched a devastating side kick dead into his chest. The two-hundred-pound brute was sent flying into a concrete pillar, collapsing to the floor in a heap, utterly paralyzed.

The rest of the thugs froze in absolute shock.

Was this the 'sick man' they had been laughing at?!

"Get him! Kill him!"

Rhys fluidly kicked the discarded steel pipe into his hand, bringing it down with a bone-shattering strike against the back of the second man's knees.
