Beatty mumbled in agreement with her brother. "Exactly. Callahan is right to bring her, and I think you're just overthinking it..."
Reese, seeing her own children completely failing to grasp her painstaking efforts, felt her chest tighten with anger. She pointed a trembling finger at them. "You two brainless fools! If we don't fight for our share while Dante is still here, what happens when he's gone? Once the company is handed over entirely to Callahan, are you planning to live on air and starve?"
Bagot had heard these diatribes so many times his ears were callousing over. Too lazy to listen to another lecture, he grabbed Beatty and stood up. "Fine, fine. Think whatever you want. We're going upstairs."
The siblings walked away without looking back, leaving Reese standing there alone, her expression dark and stormy.
Talbot, seeing the children leave, finally sighed. He walked over to Reese and spoke in a low, persuasive voice. "Reese, the kids are still young. They don't understand these things. Don't be angry with them."
Reese's eyes reddened with tears of grievance. "Talbot, in this entire house, you're the only one who understands me! Look at Bagot and Beatty, no sense of crisis whatsoever! Dante is clearly favoring your brother's family. If I don't play the villain, will we ever have good days ahead?"
Talbot patted her shoulder, his tone steady. "You were too impatient today. Even if you despise them, you can't make it so obvious. Dante hasn't fully relinquished power yet, and Callahan is at the height of his influence. We have to learn to endure."
Reese grit her teeth. "I just can't swallow this anger! Look at Letty's smug face! And that Leilani! She's just a doctor with no background. Does she deserve to strut around the Langley estate like she owns the place?"
Talbot narrowed his eyes, lowering his voice further. "What's the rush? The days are long. No matter how biased Dante is, it doesn't change the fact that the Langley Group is a family enterprise. As long as we strike at the right moment, we might still flip the board."
Reese looked up at him. "You mean..."
