"Josiah, I've been at home all this time. I'm not really sure what Milford is up to," Tamara stammered.
"Not sure?" Josiah sneered, finally looking up at her. "Then what use is your marriage into the Sherwood family?"
To his ears, her words were just empty excuses. Even though he had been too busy to spend much time at home lately, it only took a passing glance to see the truth. While the Sloans were overwhelmed with crises, Tamara had been living more comfortably and carefree than anyone else. According to Zadie, she had even been in the mood to go out shopping with friends yesterday.
Tamara's face paled, and she instantly looked wronged. "Josiah, what do you mean by that... Don't you know why I married into the Sherwoods? Why am I being scolded just for coming home for a week? Am I no longer welcome in this house?!"
Given her early pregnancy, Tamara's emotions were highly sensitive, and Josiah's harsh words genuinely stung. Had it been the old Tamara, her first instinct wouldn't have been sadness, but rather scrambling to salvage her image in front of him.
Josiah slammed his laptop shut, his sharp gaze piercing right through her self-righteous defense. "Tamara, you married into the Sherwoods because you've been infatuated with Milford since you were a kid, not for the sake of the Sloans."
"And could you stop twisting my words? Was I kicking you out just now? No!" he continued heatedly. "Take a look at the current situation. If our company was doing well, I wouldn't say a word even if you stayed home for a year or two. But look at how much the family is struggling right now! And you, you've been married into the Sherwoods for this long, and you don't even know what your own husband is doing?"
His tone was icy, his eyes filled with sheer disappointment. "The Sloans are being cornered by the Sherwood Group at every turn, yet you just hide at your parents' house all day. What use are you?"
