Leilani lowered her eyes, her fingertips gently tracing the rim of her cup. A brief flash of surprise crossed her mind, but it quickly faded back into tranquil indifference.
After all, in Leilani's eyes, Clive had always been an overbearing, impossibly arrogant tyrant. Who would have thought a day like this would come for him?
As Judie continued, she leaned closer to Leilani, her gaze shifting to convey a hint of concern. "But the weirdest part is, I heard my dad mention that the recent targeted attacks on the Sloan Group's projects are highly suspicious. The shadows pulling the strings behind all this might very well trace back to the Sherwood Group..."
The Fulton Group was a massive enterprise, which meant their intelligence network was often much faster and more accurate than others. Being a seasoned veteran in the business world, Donovan Fulton's instincts were incredibly sharp. He had immediately pinpointed the root of the problem.
Judie had to admit she was shocked when she first heard the news. After all, everyone at the wedding had witnessed Fitch fiercely defending Tamara. The rumor that Fitch preferred his daughter-in-law over his own biological daughter had circulated throughout their entire social circle. Some malicious gossips had even spun vile rumors behind closed doors.
Thus, when Judie heard her father suggest that the Sloans' downfall was being orchestrated by the Sherwoods, she couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine.
Following Judie's revelation, Leilani's eyes narrowed sharply. The Sherwood Group? Milford? She suddenly recalled Fitch's unusually protective behavior during the wedding. So that's why...
Leilani had sensed that something was off with Fitch back then, but she hadn't anticipated that his true ambitions were this massive. The Sherwoods were actively trying to swallow the entire Sloan family whole to use them as fertilizer for their own empire.
Yvonne looked entirely bewildered. "Why would my family target the Sloans?"
Was it for her sake?
That seemed highly unlikely. If they wanted to exact revenge on her behalf, they would have gone after the Sloans right at the wedding. Waiting this long to settle the score seemed a bit too delayed.
Judie shrugged her shoulders. "Who knows? Maybe it's just ruthless corporate competition?"
Leilani didn't add to the speculation. She simply lifted her coffee cup and took a slow sip, her expression utterly detached.
Whatever happened to the Sloans had nothing to do with her. In fact, if they met with disaster, she would be more than happy to watch them burn.
