With a tight jaw, Callahan suddenly took off his trench coat and wrapped it carefully around her. His movements were incredibly gentle, as if he were terrified of breaking her.

"Does it hurt?" he asked in a low voice, his fingertips lightly brushing against the bloodstains on her cheek.

Leilani shook her head, wanting to say she was fine, but the moment she opened her mouth, a muffled cough escaped, and a trace of blood spilled from her lips.

Callahan's eyes instantly darkened to a terrifying degree. "Bear with it," he whispered. Slipping his arms beneath her knees and shoulders, he lifted her into a bridal carry.

Leilani instinctively grabbed the front of his shirt. The blood on her fingertips rubbed against his expensive fabric, leaving several glaring red streaks.

Callahan didn't even knit his brows. He simply tightened his arms, holding her even more securely.

The night breeze swept past, lifting her tousled hair. A faint scent of her perfume lingered in the strands. As Callahan looked down, his breath caught at the mix of her light fragrance and the metallic scent of blood. It felt as though an invisible hand were mercilessly squeezing his heart.

He carried her to the car, gently placing her in the backseat.

Leilani's eyes were half-closed. The damaged neckline of her gown slipped, revealing a large, dark bruise on her shoulder that looked exceptionally jarring against her pale skin.

Callahan's fingers paused for a moment before he gently pulled the trench coat up to cover it.

"Go to sleep," he said, his voice hoarse. "I'll wake you when we get to the hospital."

Leilani gave a vague murmur of acknowledgment before her consciousness finally plunged into complete darkness.

After making sure she was temporarily safe, Callahan turned around and closed the car door. The tenderness on his face vanished in an instant, replaced by a cold, murderous aura.
