The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 644

So, it had all been a misunderstanding. He had been planning her birthday surprise.

She lowered her eyes, her voice quiet. "Then why didn't you just tell me?"

Callahan released her chin, his fingers now playfully pinching her cheek. "That was my mistake," he admitted. "My mind was stuck on the idea of a surprise. It wouldn't have been much of a surprise if I told you, would it?"

But he knew he should have explained things as soon as he sensed something was wrong. It would have saved them from this whole ridiculous mess.

Leilani pressed her lips together, accepting his explanation.

Seeing the blush on her ears, Callahan felt a wave of relief. The misunderstanding was cleared, and their cold war was over. He was in such a good mood that he found everything about her utterly adorable.

"Leilani," he murmured, "why do you have so little faith in me?"

She shot him a glare. "Who told you to be so sneaky?"

Most people would have ended the relationship on the spot after seeing something like that. If it weren't for the deep-seated trust she had in him, her personality wouldn't have allowed them to get this far.

Callahan laughed. "Okay, my fault." He reached out and pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head. "It won't happen again."

Startled by the sudden embrace, Leilani instinctively tried to push him away, but he only held her tighter. "Callahan..." she protested, her voice muffled against his chest.

"Hmm?" he hummed, his voice laced with amusement. "Let me hold you for a bit."

She struggled for a moment more before giving up, letting herself relax in his arms.
