The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 748

She closes her eyes for a brief moment. When she opens them, they are filled with icy disgust.

"Two hundred million... Heh. Hackett really does value me as highly as ever."

Her voice is steeped in dark sarcasm, but there are no tears. She's far too used to it.

And when you're used to it, you stop caring.

Cutting ties with the Sloans isn't something to mourn; she practically wants to pop champagne. But the money...

Leilani takes a deep breath, pushing down the swirling emotions. Her gaze sharpens as she looks at Callahan.

"You shouldn't be paying this. Have you transferred the money yet?"

Callahan shakes his head. He had just been instructing Lennox to authorize the wire transfer.

Good. Leilani exhales in relief.

"Don't send him the money. I'll pay it."

It's just two hundred million. Over the past few months of hard work, Leilani has built up a very healthy bank account. She lives frugally, so she has more than enough saved. Paying two hundred million wouldn't put her under any serious financial strain. It just pisses her off that the old bastard Hackett is getting a payday out of it.

Leilani is entirely serious, and Callahan knows she isn't bluffing. She truly has the capital to back it up.

But even so, Callahan has no intention of letting her pay.

He watches her, amused and touched by her fierce independence and her absolute refusal to let him get dragged into her family's toxic financial mess.
