Neither Zeus nor Clive had any idea that a massive conspiracy was barreling straight toward the Sloan family.
At 9:00 a.m. the next morning, outside the Sloan Group headquarters.
The piercing wail of police sirens clashed with the roar of a massive, surging crowd. People hoisted crude cardboard signs scrawled in red paint: "SLOAN GROUP, GIVE US OUR HARD-EARNED MONEY!" and "CORRUPT CORPORATION STEALS WAGES!"
The furious workers were highly agitated, trying to break through the security perimeter. The scene was pure chaos.
Standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his top-floor office, Hackett Sloan stared down at the spiraling situation, his face livid. His fingers gripped the curtains so hard his knuckles turned white.
"What the hell is going on?" He whipped around, roaring at the terrified executives cowering behind him. "Didn't the Langley Group just inject two hundred million?"
"Why haven't wages been paid?"
Rhodes, the finance director, wiped cold sweat from his forehead, his voice trembling. "Mr. Sloan... that... that money... Most of it was funneled into the Southgate International project... The reserved payroll funds... were taken by the project manager, Mr. Judson... He ran off..."
"What?" The world spun before Hackett's eyes. He nearly collapsed, slamming his hands onto the desk to steady himself. "Miles Judson ran off?"
"When did this happen?"
"J-just yesterday afternoon..." the operations director squeaked. "He... he said he was going to the bank to handle the final transfer, and then... we lost contact. The project funds... they were wiped clean too..."
And the timing was impeccable.
Today happened to be payday. When the workers didn't receive their checks and realized the boss had fled, of course they rioted.
With Miles gone, they had no one to hold accountable, so they took their anger straight to the corporate headquarters.
The situation was agonizingly familiar.
It reminded Hackett of just a month ago.
Except back then, they had managed it quickly and still had some breathing room.
Now, all the funds had been stolen, plunging the company's reputation into a second massive crisis.
