"It's in black and white!" Josiah continued ruthlessly. "If you try to go crawling back to her now, aren't you terrified of what Callahan Langley will do to you?"
Josiah had begged him not to sever ties with Leilani, but Hackett had refused to listen, throwing a tantrum instead. Hackett was the one who had treated his own daughter like merchandise to be pawned off for cash.
And now he expected to snap his fingers and have Leilani rush back to save them, letting bygones be bygones?
It was absolute lunacy.
Josiah took a deep breath, trying to rein in his boiling frustration. "Dad, wake up! Leilani owes this family nothing!"
If anything, the Sloans owed her a debt they could never repay. Considering the sheer amount of psychological torture they had put her through, they should be thanking their lucky stars she wasn't actively trying to destroy them.
The truth was ugly, and Josiah laid it bare.
Hackett, who deep down knew Josiah was right, felt the sting of exposure. His guilt instantly morphed into defensive rage.
"You... shut your mouth!" Hackett trembled with fury. He snatched the tissue box off his bed and hurled it at Josiah's head. "You have no right to speak to me like that!"
Meanwhile, Zeus and Clive stood frozen, staring at their older brother in stunned disbelief.
"Severed ties?" Zeus blurted out. "When did he sever ties with Leilani? We didn't know anything about this!"
