The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 607

“If you can’t let her go, Max, why even bother pretending to?”

The look on his face hardened, and the coldness around him only deepened.

Andrea glared at Felicia, a gleam of smugness flickering as she slipped closer to Max. Did Felicia really think that, just because she had Anne, she could do whatever she wanted with him? No one ever talked to Max like that. He’d never stand for such disrespect from anyone.

Felicia was only making him hate her more.

Without warning, Max released Felicia’s wrist. She pulled her hand back, rubbing at the mark his fingers left behind. His laugh was icy and sharp. “You don’t get to lecture me, Felicia.”

He turned on his heel. When he walked past her, his presence felt almost suffocating, like the room had shrunk around her.

Andrea hurried after him, tripping over her own urgency. “Max, wait...”

Felicia was left alone, frozen in place.

The night air drifted in and lifted the edge of her dress. She closed her eyes, taking a long breath and letting it fill her up, trying to shake loose the tightness in her chest as she stared up at the sky above.

Max suddenly stopped in his tracks.

Andrea almost walked right into him. She could feel the chill in the air around him, like he sucked all the warmth out of the hallway. She stood there awkwardly, guilt prickling under her skin.

“Max…” Her voice was barely more than a whisper.

He didn’t even turn around, just spoke in that low, dangerous tone. “Stop following me.”

Andrea watched as he walked away, his tall figure disappearing into the shadows. The pain in her chest grew heavier with every step he took.

Back in the private room, Felicia slipped inside as quietly as she could.

Heather glanced up, worry etched across her face. “You were gone so long. I almost came looking for you. Is everything okay?”

Felicia forced a small smile. “It’s nothing. My stomach was acting up, but I’m fine now. Really, don’t worry.”

Heather frowned, not convinced, and reached over to hand her a glass of water. “Here. Drink this. You’ll feel better.”

Anne sounded disappointed. “Your tummy still hurts?”

Felicia tried to sound reassuring. “Not really. I just need a bit more rest. I promise, I’ll call you when I get back, and we’ll see each other soon.”

There was a pause, then Anne sighed, accepting it. “Okay. But come home soon, Mommy. I’ll wait for you.”

“I will,” Felicia promised softly.

After the call ended, Heather looked over. “So Max is taking Anne home?”

Felicia nodded. “Yeah. Brysen is in the hospital. Anne needs to see her great-grandpa.”

Heather hesitated. “You don’t think Max is doing this on purpose, do you?”

She watched Felicia closely, a sixth sense telling her something was off between Felicia and Max. Maybe that was for the best, though. Maybe Max finally letting Felicia go was exactly what she needed.

The next day, Felicia and Heather packed up and took Yara back to the Capital.
