The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 639

After Darin left, Felicia followed Jeremy into his office.

“Why is Darin back again?” she asked.

Jeremy picked up his glass of warm water, took a slow sip, and answered, “This time, he’s here looking for a partnership with Roen Capital.”

Felicia frowned, her eyebrows knitting together. “A partnership?”

Roen Capital had put their money behind the Curtis family, which put them right at odds with Darin. And Jeremy’s connection with Max was deep, so teaming up with Darin didn’t make sense at all.

Jeremy went on, “You know what happened with the Lisbon family. Everyone’s trying to get their share now, but the one who’s benefited the most is Darin.”

Felicia caught on right away. Of course, Darin wanted to use the Lisbon family's situation to strike some kind of deal with Jeremy.

“After all this, Darin’s reputation has blown up in Capital circles,” Jeremy added. “But I haven’t said yes to anything yet.”

Felicia looked thoughtful. “I just wonder what he’s up to this time.”

Jeremy studied her. His eyes were serious, his voice thoughtful. “Yeah, me too.”

She let the topic drop and handed him a file. “Here’s the report on the overseas project.”

Once they'd finished going over the paperwork, Jeremy looked up. “Got any plans tonight?”

Felicia didn’t hesitate. “Miranda reached out to me. She wants me to come home to the Hawthorne estate tonight.”

Jeremy raised a brow. “First time she’s called in ages?”

Felicia nodded. “Exactly. I’m curious to see what she wants.”

Felicia thought for a second, then typed back: If they really are your closest, most important person, would you truly hurt them by accident?

After hitting send, she waited. The chat window showed he was typing for a long time.

Maybe he just didn’t know how to answer. The question itself sounded like he was dodging responsibility.

Felicia set her phone down and stared out the window, lost in thought.

A few minutes later, her phone pinged again.

This time, his message was longer: Actually, it wasn’t entirely by accident. We were apart for a lot of years, and honestly, I feel awful that I didn’t recognize her when we saw each other again. I know it’s probably too late now. I don’t expect her to forgive me, but I still want to do something to make things right.

Felicia stared at his words for a while before answering: I’m not sure I can really answer that. If there’s still time, maybe you can fix things. But if the damage is already done, sometimes no amount of making up will be enough. That’s just what I think, anyway.
