Darin was silent for a moment, then let out a long breath, as if hesitating.
Jeremy began to speak. "If it's inconvenient for you to say, Mr. Foxhall, then..."
"She's my biological sister," Darin interrupted.
At his words, Jeremy’s brow tightened. Silence fell over the office.
But Jeremy quickly processed the reality of the situation. He knew Felicia had a brother, one her mother had taken with her when she divorced years ago.
He never imagined it was Darin.
"Fate certainly works in strange ways," he said.
It was understandable that Darin wouldn't dare to reveal himself to Felicia now.
Darin gave a bitter laugh. "Yes, strange ways indeed. Not only did I fail to protect her, I've been hurting her all along."
"So when you ask for my thoughts on Felicia and Max's public announcement, what is it you want to know?"
"If it were possible," Darin said, "I would much rather the person by Felicia's side was you, Mr. Milman. I want her to be happy. I don't want to see her in pain. Felicia has a strong will, but Max is extremely controlling. She won't be happy with him."
He couldn't forgive Max for his actions, just as he couldn't forgive himself.
"But getting them to divorce now won't be easy," Jeremy said.
"True. The biggest issue is Anne. With this public exposure and all the rumors flying around, Felicia will face a lot of trouble working at Roen Capital. If possible, Mr. Milman, you could consider letting her come work for me."
Jeremy stared at him without an immediate answer.
Darin smiled faintly. "Worried I can't protect her?"
"It's not that," Jeremy replied. "Felicia probably doesn't have a very good impression of you right now, Mr. Foxhall."
"That's why I'll need you to mediate, Mr. Milman. I know you're the person Felicia trusts most right now."
"I'll need to think about it," Jeremy said.
On his way back, he ran into Anthony, who was on his way to an appointment. "That was fast. Wasn't it about work?"
"No," Jeremy said. "Go on, you're busy. We'll talk later."
"Alright."
The next day, Max arrived at the Ross family's home to pick up Felicia and Anne.
Amber had given birth to a baby boy last week, and since it was the weekend, they had time to visit her at the hospital.
Amber had reached out to Felicia directly.
"Daddy!"
Anne had missed her father dearly after not seeing him for a few days.
Max strode over and swept her into his arms. After a moment of affection between father and daughter, he looked up at Felicia. "Let's go."
