Accompanying the overwhelming bitterness was the warm, intoxicating breath of the man pressing against her lips. Felicia furrowed her brows in deep resistance, desperate to spit out the foul liquid. But his lips sealed hers flawlessly, leaving no room for escape. The sharp, earthy bitterness shot straight to her head, forcing her to swallow the medicine down her throat. She shoved frantically against his solid chest, feeling completely deprived of oxygen.
Only then did Max slowly release the woman in his arms.
Felicia immediately turned sideways, turning the faucet on full blast to rinse her mouth. Her chest heaved as she gasped for air. With trembling fingers, she unwrapped a candy and popped it onto her tongue. Once her breathing steadied, she looked at the man standing calmly beside her. He casually pulled a tissue from the dispenser, wiped the corner of his mouth, and tossed it into the trash can. "Give me one," he requested.
Felicia handed him a candy without a word.
Max took it, unwrapped the packaging, and tossed the sweet into his mouth. "No matter how bitter it is, you still have to finish your medicine. You are not a little child anymore."
Felicia shot him a mild glare, offering no response, and stepped around him to walk out the door. Max followed her out of the bathroom.
Around eight thirty in the evening, Max wrapped up his work. When he looked up, he saw the woman resting quietly on the sofa, leaning against the armrest with her eyes closed. She had indeed lost quite a bit of weight. Her figure looked much more fragile, and her slender calves were exposed in the cool air of the office. He stood up, lightening his footsteps as he approached, and slowly crouched on one knee before her. His dark, composed eyes studied her serene, delicate face. Stripped of any makeup, her skin possessed a cool hue. The bright office lights washed over her features, giving her a soft glow. She breathed evenly, her chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm, fast asleep.
Suddenly, the man reached out. His long fingers gently brushed against her cheek, the tips making soft contact with her skin.
At his touch, Felicia's eyelashes fluttered. She slowly opened her eyes, her vision clearing to reveal the man kneeling right in front of her. The moment their eyes locked, her pupils trembled slightly, filled with the hazy bewilderment of someone just waking up.
Max pulled his hand back. "You are awake."
Regaining her senses, Felicia propped herself up on her arms. Max stood up, towering over her. "Go freshen up. We are leaving."
