The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1060

Danielle felt no ripple of emotion, simply offering a polite nod. "Congratulations."

Alexander had remained in place the whole time, his eyes fixed on Danielle, silent. In the strapless gown, she looked even more coolly elegant than he remembered, the skin of her shoulders glowing softly under the lights. His Adam's apple bobbed. He wanted to say something, but Lorie's voice cut him off.

"Alex, don't you think that dress looks a little loose on Danielle?" Lorie pulled him into the conversation, tugging on his arm. "Maybe she should ask the staff for a smaller size? But then again… if she went down a size, wouldn't it be too tight on her waist? I mean, since she just had that surgery and all." The implication was unmistakable, a cruel jab at Danielle's figure and a pointed reminder of her recent operation, all designed to humiliate her.

Kirsten couldn't hold back any longer. She stepped in front of Danielle. "Aren't you overstepping a bit, Miss Gaylord? What size dress we wear is none of your business. Besides, it's just an engagement. Do you really need to show it off everywhere you go?"

The color drained from Lorie's face, and she looked at Alexander with a wounded expression. "Alex, that's not what I meant… I was just trying to give Danielle some friendly advice."

Alexander frowned, his gaze toward Danielle complicated. Finally, he just said to Lorie, "Stop it. Let's go look at the wedding dress."

Just then, Lorie swept back over, holding the train of the wedding dress she was now wearing. A carefully crafted, gentle smile was on her face, but her tone held an insistent edge. "Danielle, our last engagement party had a little… accident, but we've been much more thorough this time. I'm sure there won't be any more problems." She paused, her eyes locking onto Danielle, adding as if bestowing a great favor, "Alex and I both hope you can be there. After all… you're Niki's mother. That makes you family, in a way."

Hearing this, Danielle let out a laugh that didn't reach her eyes. "So if I don't come, you two can't get engaged?" She took a half-step forward, her gaze clear and sharp as she met Lorie's. "Let's get something straight, Miss Gaylord. I am not your mother, and I am not Alexander's mother. What does your engagement have to do with me? Why would I need to be part of your spectacle?"

Lorie's smile froze on her face. Her hand clenched the fabric of her wedding gown, twisting it out of shape as her face cycled through shades of red and white, utterly speechless.
