He knew Rebecca and Sammie meant well, but he was just so tired—too tired to even find the strength to fight. He rested his head on the desk, trying to force himself to sleep, but his mind remained stubbornly awake, tangled in a suffocating web of negative emotions.

For the past several days, Danielle had been handling most of her work from home. The demands of Ninesky were already immense, and balancing them with Niki's studies and safety had her working around the clock, surviving on just a few hours of sleep each night.
Despite the strain, she minimized her time outside, staying home unless it was for an essential meeting, terrified of giving the Gaylord family an opening.
That afternoon, Danielle was in the living room reviewing a partnership proposal while Niki was in the study with Calvin for a physics lesson. Suddenly, the doorbell rang insistently, shattering the quiet.
Danielle frowned and checked the intercom camera. It was Lorie. A wave of annoyance washed over her, but after a moment's hesitation, she opened the door.
Lorie stood there in a designer dress and exquisite makeup, clutching a limited-edition handbag. Her posture was haughty, her eyes filled with undisguised hostility. "Danielle. Can we talk?"
"I have nothing to talk about with you," Danielle said coldly, not moving to let her in. But Lorie simply pushed past her and walked into the living room, her eyes scanning the decor. "I didn't expect you to be living so comfortably. You must have gotten a hefty settlement when you and Alexander divorced. But I'm warning you, stay away from him."
Danielle closed the door and turned to face her. "Miss Gaylord, have you made some kind of mistake? Alexander and I have nothing to do with each other anymore."
That threat finally enraged Danielle. She took a step forward, her gaze sharp as she stared at Lorie, her voice ice-cold. "Lorie, you'd better watch your mouth. It's not your place to dictate how my daughter and I live our lives."
The powerful aura emanating from Danielle made Lorie instinctively step back, a flicker of fear in her heart. But the thought of her impending engagement to Alexander made her muster her courage. "Who do you think you are? Just a woman who's been cast aside. Once I marry into the Davidson family, I'll have plenty of ways to deal with you!"
"Is that so?" Danielle sneered, walking to the door and pulling it open. "I don't have time for this nonsense. Now, please leave my home! If I ever see you trespassing here again, I'll call the police."
Seeing the unyielding look in Danielle's eyes, Lorie knew she wouldn't get the upper hand today. She could only spit out a final threat: "You just wait. We'll see about this."
