Alexander watched Danielle in silence, saying nothing more. The air in the master suite seemed to solidify around them. Calvin's methods were certainly unconventional, and it was clear his erratic behavior concealed a much deeper agenda.
As the quiet stretched on, the silence in the room became almost eerie. Finally, Danielle took a deep breath, breaking the tension. "Can we talk?" She felt it was high time they had a real conversation. Alexander raised his eyes, his gaze landing on her face. "Sit," he said flatly. "Of course." Danielle sat on the sofa opposite him.
"Is Harold your mortal enemy?" she asked, getting straight to the point. She needed to understand the full story. "Why do you ask that?" Alexander replied. "Because that's what everyone thinks," Danielle said bluntly. "In the business world, you're constantly at each other's throats. With the Project 07 fighter jet, you're the biggest competitors. Everyone assumes you're irreconcilable foes."
Alexander picked up the glass of water from the table and took a small sip. "No. We're not mortal enemies. We're not even true rivals." Danielle's brow furrowed. "Then why fight so desperately? For control of The Davidson Group? For the Project 07 contract?" Alexander set his glass down, his deep-set eyes locking onto hers. "Can you really not see it?" "I'm asking you precisely because I can't see it."
Alexander lowered his gaze, a faint, sardonic smile touching his lips. He decided there was no point in hiding it anymore. It was time for some honesty. After all, she had found her own happiness now, with a dependable man like Gian to protect her. Telling her about these old grudges wouldn't hurt.
"He's Jake Davidson's illegitimate son," Alexander said, his voice low. He delivered the bombshell with a startling calmness, as if he had long ago accepted the fact. Danielle froze, the expression on her face instantly rigid. She had considered a thousand possibilities—that they were business rivals, that they were fighting over family assets. But she had never once imagined that Harold was Jake's illegitimate son.
"No wonder..." Danielle murmured, countless details flashing through her mind. "No wonder Jake funneled so many resources to him. No wonder he rose so quickly. No wonder he's so invested in the affairs of The Davidson Group..." It all came back to his parentage.
"So, the entire company was meant for him?" Danielle's voice was laced with disbelief. "What about Nathan Davidson? Was he just a decoy?" "Nathan is the son of Jake's older brother, not Jake's own son," Alexander explained. "Publicly, he's the eldest son of the Davidson family, a respectable figurehead. In reality, he's just a pawn Jake uses to maintain stability and divert attention. The only one Jake ever wanted to groom was Harold."
He continued, "I told him long ago that I would give Harold all my shares in The Davidson Group. I've always been willing." But Alexander knew, deep down, that even if he agreed, Jake would find a way to stop it. No matter how well he played his part, he couldn't fool him. "I have no interest in controlling The Davidson Group. That was never what I wanted."
