The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1139

He was silent for a few seconds before giving a slow nod. “Okay. I know.”

This time, he had truly heard her.

Danielle gently closed the door after Alexander’s figure disappeared. She walked to the window and watched his car slowly drive away from the complex. The regrets of her past life were gradually being mended, and what she had lost was slowly returning.

---

The next morning, just as Alexander’s car entered Danielle’s residential complex, he saw a familiar white sedan parked downstairs. Gian was lifting several elegantly wrapped bags from the trunk, his movements calm and composed.

Alexander’s heart skipped a beat. He hadn’t expected to run into Gian here.

He got out of his car, his black suit accentuating his tall, straight posture. The morning light softened the usual hard set of his features.

Gian heard the sound and turned. A flash of surprise crossed his face when he saw Alexander, followed by a slight arch of his eyebrow and a half-smile. “Mr. Davidson. To what do we owe the pleasure?”

Alexander didn’t miss the passive-aggressive undertone. He was well aware of Gian’s feelings for Danielle. For all the years he had been absent, Gian had been the one by her and Niki’s side. It was a debt he acknowledged.

Ignoring the barb, Alexander’s gaze fell to the bags in Gian’s hands. “Thank you,” he said, his tone even, “for taking care of her and my daughter all these years.”

Alexander took the bags, his fingertips brushing the cool wrapping paper. “Alright. Thank you for this.”

Gian just nodded, said nothing more, and turned to walk back to his car. Once inside, he didn't start the engine immediately. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, his mind replaying scenes from the past few years—Danielle struggling to build her career while raising Niki, the little girl shyly calling him Mr. Atwood, and the moments of vulnerability and strength Danielle occasionally revealed. He had once thought that with enough patience and persistence, he might one day find a place in her heart.

But he had forgotten that some things are decided from the very beginning. Niki was Alexander and Danielle’s daughter—a bond of blood he could never replace.

As the car slowly pulled away, Gian glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Alexander carrying the bags into the building. The last flicker of hope inside him was extinguished.
