The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1230

He knew that his words, “just friends,” had probably shattered Rebecca’s heart. But he had no other choice.

Harold’s network was vast and treacherous. Rebecca’s reckless arrival had already put her in grave danger. If he got too close to her now, he would only make her a target for Harold, a thorn in the man’s side that he would be eager to remove.

Rebecca sat numbly in the back of the taxi.

The exhaustion from the long flight had not yet faded, but the tightness in her chest was a smoldering fire, burning so hot she couldn’t sit still. As the car passed the entrance of the Willow Hotel, the driver slowed to avoid a pedestrian. Rebecca’s gaze idly drifted out the window, and her heart sank like a stone.

Under the warm, yellow lights of the hotel portico, Sammie and Kathie stood side by side. Kathie was clinging to his arm, her head tilted slightly as she spoke to him, a sweet smile curving her lips. Sammie looked down at her, the harshness in his expression softened, replaced by a faint smile of his own.

Together, they were a picture-perfect couple, their intimacy effortless and natural, like a scene from a carefully painted romance.

Rebecca’s fingers dug into her palms, the sharp pain a distant echo. So that was it. That explained why he had left without a word, why he had been so cold and distant, why he had accepted his perfectly matched fiancée. Kathie was stunning, vibrant, and from a wealthy, powerful family—what man wouldn’t want such a perfect match?

And what was she? A trivial chapter in his life, a past he could shed without a second thought.

The taxi slowly pulled away, and the piercing image finally disappeared from view. Rebecca leaned back against the seat and closed her eyes.

It was late when she finally reached her hotel. She dragged her suitcase into the room, not even bothering to turn on the lights before collapsing onto the sofa.
